Position Open: Technical Manager Waste Management Services

USAFIPLUS Waste Disposal Services is a leading provider of integrated environmental solutions in Kenya.

USAFIPLUS Waste provides a comprehensive waste management services, with a mission to enhancing reducing the impact while enabling a sustainable both economic and environmental sustainability for all of our stakeholders.

USAFI PLUS Waste Disposal Services supports the “Going Green” initiative by maintaining an integrated, innovative approach to Waste Management and Disposal Services through process technological innovations that focuses on the key issues of sustainability, environment and safety. Since its establishment in January 2013, the “Green” facility now processes an average of 2500 Kgs of waste per day. The facility receives waste from several hospitals, industries and research Institutions in Nairobi and its environs. The waste materials handled are both non-hazardous and hazardous materials. Non-hazardous materials are predominantly paper, cartons, and wood. Hazardous materials include infectious waste, expired pharmaceuticals, expired pens, and combustible solvents.

USAFI PLUS Waste Disposal Services is looking for an experienced professional to head the Waste Management and Training Division and who can develop innovative solutions that solve complex business problems and achieve real, measurable results.

Job Summary

Oversees planning and execution of large and moderately complex projects. This position is directly responsible for meeting company goals. The Manager will have a thorough understanding of USAFIPLUS Waste Disposal Services and be able to support training programmes.

II   Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Other minor duties may be assigned.  These include:

  • Inspecting and monitoring   for compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Assembles teams, assigns individual responsibilities, develops project schedules and determines and acquires resources needed.
  • Develops and maintains company and project plans, budgets and prepares and analyzes project performance reports.
  • Negotiates, administers, and manages contracts with clients.
  • Serves as liaison between waste facility and the management requesting for services.
  • Supervises teamwork processes and procedures and expenses and supports programs which drive team performance toward company goals.
  • Reviews and evaluates work to ensure quality, timeliness and ensures quality control in adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Oversees waste facility personnel needs including coaching, training, and evaluating employee performance. 
  • Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.

III.   Supervisory Responsibilities

The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of non-supervisory employees.  This includes directing and supervision of other employees. 

IV.  Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma and four years of relevant work experience.
  • A Master’s degree will be an added advantage
  • Experience: Five years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).

B.  Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

  • Relevant certificates to Biosafety, Chemical safety, Environment e.g. EIA/EA, OSH

C.  Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

  • Project planning, budgeting, Landfill Engineering/Environmental Remediation, Regulatory knowledge, contract management, and general waste industry knowledge required.
